In order to realise its vision, the BFTU is guided by the following values:
Accountability: all leaders of the federation and affiliate unions must take full responsibility for their decisions and actions. They must be in a position to explain and justify them at all times.
Transparency: all decisions must be taken in an open manner where every member can appreciate everything that has been done or ought to be done.
Botho: there must be mutual respect for one another and humility in the execution of duties and responsibilities by all members of the federation.
Professionalism: all members must perform their duties and responsibilities in line with all the instruments governing their professional conduct. They must strive for higher standards as well as enhance the image and the reputation of the federation.
Worker focus: everything that we do must be geared towards serving workers in the most efficient and effective manner. Their needs and demands must be addressed promptly at all times in line with the philosophy of trade unionism.
Stakeholder engagement: establishing partnerships and linkages with organisations that can contribute to the growth and sustenance of the federation.
Timeliness: the set timeframes must be adhered to all times as failure to do so may result in loss of opportunities.
