Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU)

The BFTU was formed in April 1977 as the first federation in Botswana, replacing the Botswana Trade Union and Education Centre. The formation of the BFTU was spearheaded by five trade unions which are:

To be a leading federation of all trade unions in Botswana and beyond

Mission

To promote trade union and human rights; bargain for improved conditions of service and good industrial relations.
Empowering Workers Across Botswana

Strengthening unity, protecting rights, and building a fair workplace for all sectors.

It currently has twenty-five (25) affiliates which are trade unions representing workers from all sectors of the economy e.g. :

All registered trade unions, irrespective of their political or ideological orientation, can affiliate to the BFTU.
